Lots of consistent problems in the homework reared their ugly heads:
- Not following the rules for appropriate doublings - GROWL!!!!!
- ROOT POS TRIADS - almost always should double the . . . [FIB]
- 1st INV TRIADS - first try to double the . . . [FIB]; second best option is to double the . . . [FIB] . . . etc.
- 2nd INV TRIADS - double the . . . [FIB]
- Not including the inversion symbols in your RN analysis (and how can you double the correct triad member w/o considering your inversion?!!)
- Leaving out chord members, which really hurts their feelings (and remember that you should save tripled roots for final tonic triad, IF appropriate to the sound you want to create)
- Wrong RN analysis. If you don't have a strong grasp on this by now, you need outside assistance
- Tutoring (ask me for recommendations)
- Work with a classmate who is doing well in the written theory class
- Work with an upper-division student or someone from another 112 section who has a good grasp on things
- Investigate internet resources like the Wikipedia figured bass article
- Avoiding or ignoring this won't help . . .
- General laziness and incomplete work
- Not participating in the wiki chapter summary project
Less egregious offenses:
- Spacing problems (too much space between one or more upper parts)
- Leaping like nuts (nuts=P4+)
- Writing the wrong quality chord in your RN analysis (like II instead of ii . . . )
- Not using enough stepwise motion

I feel silly asking this, but what does [FIB] stand for?

Fill in the Blank. Not a silly question at all.
